Situated between the Kruger National Park and the ZululandCoast - the same Africa, a different world! Mkuze Falls is one of only two Private Game Reserves in the region where you can view the 'Big 5'.

The Mkuze Falls Big Five Private Game Reserve is beautifully situated in the heart of historic Zululand in the South African province of KwaZulu Natal. The reserve is located on land that once formed part of the 'Boer Republic', created when the pioneer leader, Piet Retief, bought the land from Dingaan, half brother of the great Zulu-king Shaka. Mkuze Falls Lodge consists of nine thatched chalets and a central lodge complex that are all built on raised wooden platforms and provide stunning views of the falls or the perennial Mkuze River and the hills beyond.

The Mkuze Falls Game Reserve is a haven to the African 'Big Five': Lion, Elephant, white and black Rhino, Cape Buffalo and Leopard. Cheetah, Hippo, Crocodile, spotted Hyena, Giraffe, Wildebeest, Zebra and numerous species of antelope are also resident in the reserve. The elusive Nyala occurs in greater numbers here, than anywhere else in the world.

Mkuze Falls Game Lodge offers luxurious Chalets and one Safari Lodge Suite. All Chalets are built on raised wooden platforms and the spacious veranda of each unit provides fantastic views of the river, the waterfall and the surrounding hills.

Activities

Enjoy two Big Five Reserve game drives daily, one in the early morning where guests will meet for coffee and tea before going out on the Private reserve. There will be a short break in the game drive to enjoy another tea or coffee with a rusk or biscuit. A scrumptious breakfast will be ready for you on your return from your adventure.
In the afternoon high tea is served in the lounge area, with an array of delightful and delectable treats, after which you can get ready for the afternoon game drive.

Game and bird watching drives are conducted professionally and safely bringing the bush alive in a close encounter with the knowledge of the guide.
The unique ecosystems of riverine, wetland, lowveld bushveld and montane grassland provide for the diversity and large quantity of bird and animal species, big and small.
